Brooklyn Hustle chasing maiden Group 1 win in Newmarket

The racing gods have conspired against Brooklyn Hustle who lines up for another attempt at Group 1 glory in the (1200m) at Flemington.

Saturday’s outing down the ‘ will be Brooklyn Hustle’s sixth attempt at Group 1 success and while she is yet to fill a place at Group 1 level, she has not finished further back than fifth.

It all started in the Stakes as a two-year-old, when finishing fifth to Lyre at Caulfield in 2019 before later that year collecting another fifth behind Exceedance in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, over Saturday’s course and distance.

Now in her four-year-old season, Brooklyn Hustle has three Group 1 fourth placings, starting with the and , both at The Valley last spring, before finishing 0.3 lengths from dead-heaters and in the Oakleigh Plate.

Dean Krongold, who trains in partnership with Jason Warren, said Brooklyn Hustle’s racing pattern made for hard-luck stories.

“We’re just happy that she’s in great order,” Krongold said.

“She’s come through the Oakleigh Plate run really well and the 1200 metres down the straight shouldn’t hold any fears for her.

“She should give herself every chance.”

Krongold said he had noticed a change in Brooklyn Hustle which he hopes reads as a positive sign ahead of Saturday’s outing.

“Last preparation she was a finicky eater, but this time she’s been licking the feed bin out,” Krongold said.

“She’s had a gallop, some maintenance work and now we’ll give her a kiss and a cuddle and keep her happy through until Saturday.”

The -trained filly September Run has a stranglehold on Newmarket betting as the TAB +125 favourite from at +750.

Brooklyn Hustle is a +1800 chance.
