Brisbane Partnership Continues To Profit

Co-trainer Robert Heathcote declared three-year-old Profit was on the road to Group race success after the gelding overcame difficulties to win at .

Profit ($4.40) made it two wins from two starts when he charged home to beat his stable mate Guntantes ($12) by 1 1/4 lengths in the Programmed Property Services Handicap.

Heathcote now trains in a partnership with and they have more than 100 horses on their books.

“We have plenty of horses but on potential Profit is the best in the stable,” Heathcote said.

“He did a lot wrong and won his first start at Caloundra. Then today he has sat three deep the whole way at the back of the field but has blown them away.

“We have thought he had the potential to be a Group horse for some time.”

Profit is by boom sire Dundeel and the $320,000 buy as a yearling will eventually be prepared as a horse.

Jockey Ron Stewart picked up the winning ride after missed the meeting with illness.

Heathcote was also pleased with the run of Guntantes who looked the winner at the 200m.

“I have been saying he wants 1600m to 2000m and we will give Guntantes his chance at 1600m in a fortnight,” Heathcote.

The partnership got a double when Kubis ($8.50) made it back-to-back wins in the Clear Insurance Handicap (1400m).

“The funny thing is after he ran second in the Toowoomba Cup we spelled him because he was getting balloted out of winter feature races,” Heathcote said.

“Now he has won two races since the spell I am worried he might get too much weight in the Spring Cup next month which is his main mission.”

Trainer Steve O’Dea got a treble for the Proven Thoroughbreds syndicate when won the QScan Radiology Clinics Handicap (1400m).

0’Dea, who had earlier won with Reckless Choice and , went within centimetres of four winners when was second to .

Takes Time carried on a long association for trainer with the broodmare Belle Salieri.

A stakes-winning mare, Belle Salieri and her daughters have produced the winners of about 50 races with most trained by Gough.
