Speedy filly Spirit’s Choice is a perfect example of how the value of her sire Spirit of Boom‘s offspring has skyrocketed.
Spirit’s Choice was heavily backed to win the $200,000 Jewel Three-Year-Old (1200m) at the Gold Coast before it was washed out last Saturday.
She will front up on Saturday to make her Eagle Farm debut in the rescheduled Jewel.
Spirits Choice, by Spirit Of Boom out of the Snippetson mare Deb’s Choice, was originally passed in for $30,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions Sale.
Her full brother was sold for $350,000 to Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott at this year’s Magic Millions Sale in January.
Eureka Stud proprietor Scott McAlpine who offered both horses, said the consistency of horses such as Spirit’s Choice continued to impress buyers.
“Spirit’s Choice has won six races and four of them have been at three years old which helps show the Spirit Of Boom horses will train on,” he said.
Trainer Matt Kropp has carefully taken Spirit’s Choice through her classes and believes she is getting stronger with maturity.
Spirits Choice has won her past three starts including two at Dalby where she won both by six lengths.
“She makes her own luck and should be out of trouble,” Kropp said.
Apprentice Hannah Phillips has ridden Spirit’s Choice at her past three wins but senior rider Matt McGillivray will have the mount on Saturday.
Spirit of Boom will have two runners with the MIchael Nolan-trained Spirit’s Pride also in the field.
