Sunshine Coast training partnership of John Symons and Sheila Laxon again showed their ability with veteran horses when I Feel Good caused a massive upset at Doomben.
Symons and Laxon had only two runners at Doomben and both of them were 10 years old.
I Feel Good ($71) belied his age when he charged home to beat Bryneich ($3.70) by 1-1/4 lengths with a neck to Apoloboom ($7) in third in the Coca Cola Christmas Movies Handicap (1615m).
Symons and Laxon’s other runner for the day was Irish Constabulary who won at his previous start at Doomben.
I Feel Good, who was first-up for 19 weeks, won the provincial stayers final in July and is much better known as a middle-distance horse.
Laxon said I Feel Good was a quality galloper when on song and the fast early pace had suited him.
“The horses seem to thrive at the Sunshine Coast and we are able to use the beach to keep them happy,” Laxon said.
“We will have to make the most of it because next season they may not be allowed to race.”
