Trainer James Cummings says has had a “problem-free” lead in to Saturday's Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens, where the rising star will look to make amends for his first-up defeat in the Expressway Stakes.

Having finishing a narrow second in last year, the multiple Group 1 winner resumed on January 29 and was beaten over 1200m as a short-priced favourite, although he had plenty of excuses.

The star three-year-old now rises to seven furlongs this weekend and has once again come up an odds-on shout.

With headed to Melbourne for the Lightning Stakes, Hugh Bowman will ride Anamoe in Sydney from barrier nine.

Despite the loss last time out, Cummings believes his runner can bounce back and prove himself as the nation's best three-year-old.

“He's come on beautifully, we've stuck to our program with him and I'm really pleased with the way he's trained on,” he said.

“It's been problem-free getting to the Hobartville, pretty important groundwork for what's going to be ahead of him.

“He's going to be much better suited up to seven furlongs and it looks really good for him at set weights back against the three-year-olds.”

While Saturday's race is the main focus at this stage, Cummings looks forward to seeing Anamoe step out over a touch further in the near future.

The Guineas-winning colt is on a path towards the Randwick Guineas this autumn, while the could be his “grand final” this preparation.

“He's going to get the opportunity to have two conditioning runs before he gets to the Group 1, 1600m Randwick Guineas,” the trainer said.

“We're pretty keen on that race ( Stakes) as a somewhat of a grand final in the autumn.

“In the short term, we have to be quite confident we've got him right for this weekend and make sure everything sails along smoothly before we saddle him up for this Group 2.”

Anamoe is currently the -133.33 favourite with Bovada to win the Hobartville, ahead of (+450), while Silent Impact (+700) and Ranch Hand (+700) share the third line of betting.

Cummings does also have (+7000) accepted in the Hobartville, but the Victoria Derby runner-up will head to Melbourne for the C.S. Hayes Stakes (1400m).

“I really wanted to find something winnable for Alegron even if seven furlongs is way too short,” Cummings said.

“The Hobartville looked a bit strong, so I sent him to Melbourne and he'll run in the C.S. Hayes.

“We will run this weekend before he steps up to a mile and beyond.

“He's a pretty interesting horse and he's come back pretty well.

“He's quite forward and I'd be hopeful that he's going to get himself into the game once the distances increase and become a potential (Australian) Derby prospect.”

The son of Teofilo is a +3300 chance in the C.S. Hayes, while he is the third favourite for the Australian Derby (2400m) at +1000, where and share favouritism at $8 apiece.
