THE Chris Waller-trained Boban will contest the 2015 Stradbroke Handicap following its stylish win in the Doomben 10,000 last week.
The $2 million feature sprint on June 6 is the headline act during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and Boban has been given the top weight by handicappers.
Sportsbet.com.au have Boban at $17 in the market and Waller’s racing manager Liam Prior issued a statement confirming its inclusion into the Stradbroke.
“Boban has recovered well following his win in the Doomben 10,000 and has continued to please the stable through the week,” Prior said.
The last horse to complete the Doomben 10,000/Stradbroke Handicap was Campaign King in 1988, where it carried 58.5kg to victory and Boban will be looking to carry 58kg to victory this year.
“Although we concede winning the Stradbroke with the top weight and against some high quality opposition will be challenging, we feel that both the horse and the owners deserve the opportunity to win another Group 1 race with very good prize money on offer, and therefore it is our plan to run Boban in the Stradbroke Handicap.
“Glyn Schofield will ride Boban and Glen Boss has been booked to ride Delectation,” Prior said.
Current Stradbroke Handicap favourite is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Najoom, which has overcome a slight injury scare and will take its place in the field.
