Having won the Group 1 Doomben Cup as if he was Winx, Zaaki is the new +320 favourite with online bookmakers for the 2021 Cox Plate.
Prior to his win in Brisbane on Saturday, the Annabel Neasham-trained six-year-old was a +1600 chance to take out the best weight-for-age race in Australia.
Zaaki had put the writing on the wall with a dominant win in the Group 2 AD Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast the start prior, but his scintillating performance last Saturday has made him the clear standout for October’s Moonee Valley feature.
Last year’s Caulfield Cup winner, Verry Elleegant, is his closest rival in the early Cox Plate markets at +1000, while untapped talents Ayrton (+1200) and Anamoe (+1400) are also prominent.
The 2020 Cox Plate winner, Sir Dragonet, and the 2021 All Star Mile winner, Mugatoo, are +1600 in Cox Plate futures betting, but both were well beaten on Saturday by Zaaki and will need to find something to be competitive in the spring.
