The twilight meeting at Mornington has been cut short after three races with a thunderstorm sweeping the track.
Racing Victoria stewards made the decision to abandon Wednesday’s meeting as another storm front approached.
Steward in charge of Wednesday’s meeting Rob Montgomery said it was RV policy to wait 30 minutes following the last lightning strike or clap of thunder before deciding if racing should continue.
He said stewards had been in contact with the Bureau of Meteorology which advised more storm activity was approaching while lightning and thunder was still in the Mornington area.
Montgomery said stewards held reservations the remainder of the meeting could be completed with the amount of daylight remaining once the storm has passed.
