Manitowoc County Expo Raceway
Manitowoc County Fairgrounds, 4921 Expo Drive, Manitowoc, Wisconsin 54220
Manitowoc County Expo Raceway was a dirt oval located on the Manitowoc County Fairgrounds in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The track operated Wednesday-night programs sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA), running Modifieds, Stock Cars, and Street Stocks on its compact oval surface.
The raceway reopened in 2002 following a period of dormancy, with Wednesday-night racing returning under the stewardship of the Manitowoc County Race Track Committee, chaired by David Gauger. The IMCA-sanctioned format brought a competitive weekly program to the Lakeshore region of Wisconsin, drawing drivers from Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Green Bay, and the surrounding counties.
The track’s history stretches back further. Originally constructed as a half-mile dirt oval at the fairgrounds, the circuit was resized to a 3/8-mile configuration after 1994 as part of updates to the fairground facilities. The shorter layout suited the IMCA Modified and Stock Car classes that formed the core of the weekly program.
Manitowoc County Expo Raceway ran its final season in 2016. The county fairgrounds property was subsequently sold to Meijer Foods for commercial development, ending the track’s operating life. The facility no longer exists in racing form.
