In a shocking turn of events, the reigning Everest champion, Giga Kick, has been forced to withdraw from the highly anticipated $20 million Everest.
This unexpected setback is attributed to an injury suffered by the Clayton Douglas-trained superstar, a torn gluteal muscle, during the widely discussed Group 2 McEwen Stakes, a 1000m race held at Moonee Valley on September 9.
Unfortunately, Giga Kick's injury has dashed hopes of seeing the talented horse compete for the remainder of the Spring Carnival, leaving fans and enthusiasts disappointed.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the four-year-old horse would not be participating in the Premiere Stakes, a 1100m race at Randwick, which was initially considered a crucial lead-up event for The Everest.
Furthermore, this development has left accomplished jockey James McDonald without a ride for The Everest.
His previous associations with both Nature Strip and Giga Kick, both of which are no longer contenders, have left him searching for a new mount for the prestigious race.
Notably, Giga Kick, who was once the favoured contender with online bookmakers, holding the top position with odds of +350, will no longer be part of the event.
As a result, the Joe Pride-trained horse, Think About It, has emerged as the new frontrunner in the betting odds, currently priced at +400 for The Everest.
