Best Of Bordeaux sprints away in the Canonbury Stakes

notched up her first Sydney metropolitan win in Saturday’s Group 3 , as led all of the way in the 1100m event.

The two-year-old colt by started a $6 chance on debut off the back of a four-length trial win at the Sunshine Coast on January 11.

The colt was a $425,000 purchase at the 2021 Yearling Sales, and looked to be on track to make that back for connections after Saturday’s dominant 4.6-length victory.

Ridden by Sam Clipperton, Best Of Bordeaux was quick out of the gates to lead the field of five and was able to sustain the fast speed to win stylishly, stopping the clock at 1:03.91.

“That was a bit exciting – I was a little bit worried there for a little bit. I thought he might have been over-racing but he kept true to the task and stuck on nicely,” Fogden told .

 “He’s showed that a little bit at home too.

“He travelled down to Gerald (Ryan’s) last week and he has just settled in so well. He is quite a gentleman really, I was really pleased with him today.” 

Best Of Bordeaux is now a $15 chance in the , which Fogden said she will likely push on to.

 “I think so now,” she said.

“I think Sam rode him perfectly but in saying that, he was full of running the whole time.” 

Having been defeated as an odds-on favourite, has been wound out from $9 to $51 in the 2YO feature.
