Silvera Back From Injury For Bernborough

Tough gelding Silvera has bounced back from an eye injury and is set to tackle the Listed at Eagle Farm.

Silvera won the Cup and during the winter and was put aside for the summer.

He resumed with an eye-catching fourth in the Listed (1350m) at Doomben on November 23.

Trainer Tony Gollan had planned to take Silvera to the Group Two Villiers at Randwick on December 14 but the eye injury caused those plans to be scrapped.

“He got hit by a flying clod in the Recognition and it needed treatment, so Sydney was off,” Gollan said.

Silvera had a jump-out at Deagon on Tuesday and pleased Gollan enough to confirm his place in Saturday’s Bernborough (1600m)..

“Provided he continues to do well he will run Saturday,” he said.

Silvera is not a horse and the next suitable race for him after Saturday is the Sunshine Coast Cup on January 25.

Gollan’s apprentice Baylee Nothdurft has been booked for Silvera despite not being able to use his claim.

Nothdurft and fellow apprentice Stephanie Thornton have the chance to cement themselves as contenders over the coming months.

, who leads the title race on 37, will be out for at least three months after breaking his leg in a fall.

Nothdurft is on 30-1/2 metropolitan winners, half a win in front of Thornton who relocated from Victoria this season.

Thornton rides Mewstone Rock in the Bernborough while her brother Boris will be aboard .

The -trained Sambro, to be ridden by , is the favourite for the Bernborough.
