Premier Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan believes his apprentice Baylee Nothdurft can go to the top in the sport if he keeps his weight in check.
Nothdurft is a tall jockey but has been watching his weight and can ride at 54kg.
Gollan and Nothdurft combined to win with Advance Warning at the Sunshine Coast.
It was Nothdurft’s 22nd winner for Gollan since he switched his indentures to the Eagle Farm trainer three months ago.
“Baylee is a good listener and he has ridden some very good races of late,” Gollan said.
“His ride on Advance Warning is a perfect example as we worked out he would have to come through the field and that is the way it turned out.”
“Baylee can get to the top if he keeps at it.”
Nothdurft is in line to ride the Gollan-trained Vega One in the Listed Recognition Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.
“I aim to have four runners in the Recognition and I liked the way Vega One ran on well when first-up in the Keith Noud,” Gollan said.
Advance Warning brought up 50 overall winners for the season for Gollan and he later made it a double with Sugar Boom who was ridden by Stephanie Thornton.
Nothdurft is second on the senior metropolitan riders premiership with 25-1/2 wins while Thornton is third on 24.
“They both have a lot of talent and it should be a good battle to be leading apprentice this season,” Gollan said.
After a trial period, Thornton has transferred her indenture from Victoria to remain with Steve O’Dea at Eagle Farm.
