A genuine contender usually bobs up late in the Brisbane winter and this year it could be .

The filly gave the John and stable its fourth winner over the past two Saturdays when she decimated a restricted class field.

It was hardly a surprise she won on Saturday as at her previous start she had started favourite ahead of super filly when fifth in the in Melbourne in September.

The Meaghers had hoped she would be a major player in the winter but muscle soreness meant she missed the big races.

“We didn't have any choice but to turn her out and give her a good spell,” Chris Meagher said.

“But we were hoping to see her at her best (at Doomben) and she delivered.”

Pippie is now likely to have a short break before heading to Melbourne for fillies and mares races in the spring.

The filly is raced by Heran Racing which has had considerable success over the years with horses such as Startsmeup and Shotover River.

The Meaghers renewed their partnership last month after trainer John decided to come out of retirement.

They have about 30 horses in work split between their and stables.
