POMONA, Calif. – Tony Schumacher and the U.S. Army team won their sixth straight and seventh overall NHRA Full Throttle Series championship on Sunday by two points, the narrowest margin in NHRA history.

Schumacher’s team was on deck, sitting on a two-point lead over Larry Dixon, when Dixon was upset in the semifinals by Auto Club Road to the Future Award favorite Spencer Massey, thus clinching the title for the Army team.

“This trophy will go to Fort Hood; I don’t think there’s any question in the world where it belongs,” said Schumacher, alluding to the recent shootings at the Texas Army base. “We’ll present it to the family, the friends, everyone at that base.”

The win capped an intense week – and year – between rivals Schumacher and Dixon as Schumacher had to completely rebuild his team this past offseason after former crew chief Alan Johnson left to form his own team with Sheikh Khalid bin Hamed Al-Thani and hired Dixon as his driver.

Loves Park, IL (November 11, 2009)- Just two weeks after the conclusion of a successful 2009 season at Rockford Speedway, preparations are already underway for next year. Speedway crews have been replacing many sections of wall that were impacted during racing action this past season, while the Rockford Best Seal & Stripe crew has been filling various seems around the historic quarter-mile high banked paved oval.

“We have replaced three large sections of our concrete barrier which experienced their share of abuse last year.” Stated Director of Operations David Deery. “Filling the seems will help our track battle another harsh winter, so it is ready to go this Spring.” Speedway crews also refurbished much of the billboard structure which surrounds the track, nearly a dozen racecars made contact with these boards during the exciting season that concluded with over 130 machines taking the track during the October 25 Goblin 250 Enduro.

Champions were honored for their 2009 success this past Saturday night as Dells Raceway Park, an ASA Member Track, celebrated its season at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Five division champions and many weekly competitors were congratulated on their fine seasons.

The evening started with a prime rib and chicken dinner followed by an Awards program emceed by Mike Olson, one of the track’s announcers.

Joe Graziano, co-owner of Dells Raceway Park, spoke on behalf of himself and fellow co-owner Lance Fielitz where he thanked all of the sponsors and each track employee for their help this past season. He also joked that the weather on the day of the banquet was sunny and 68 degrees and said it was the best Saturday weather all year.

Graziano presented a special award to Andy Schultz for leading a great safety crew that he assembled for the track. In fact, Schultz along with Jerry Blystone, Norm Bartnick and Kevin Smith who all work at DRP were also working at Talladega two weeks ago and were the first responders to Ryan Newman after his bad wreck in turn three.
