(West Salem, WI – May 12, 2012) He hadn’t raced here since 2007, but Mark Lamoreaux proved he still had it in him to win a feature at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Lamoreaux held off last season’s champion J. Herbst to win the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature race on Saturday night.

Chris Skrede and Bill Niles started side by side on row one and both fought to keep the position. Skrede was able to get around Niles to take the lead, but he didn’t keep it for long.

Four of the fastest cars of the night were right behind the leaders waiting to strike.

Shawn Pfaff was the first to make a move. He was able to get around Niles who fell back into the field, and almost instantly dove to the inside of Skrede. But Pfaff was never able to get around the leader.

Lamoreaux, who started sixth, was on the bumper of Pfaff waiting for a chance to sneak into the second position. Instead of going to the inside, Lamoreaux went high and flew around Pfaff to take second.

Lamoreaux and Pfaff then paired up to take down the leader. The duo moved to the low side of the track and overtook Skrede at the half way point.
But the race was far from over.

Herbst had started seventh and as Lamoreaux and Pfaff passed the leader Herbst squeezed his way past Brent Kirchner for third.

At that point the leaders had reached lap traffic and Lamoreaux was able to open up a gap between himself and Pfaff.

While fighting the lap cars Herbst was able to get around Pfaff to take second with five laps to go.

Herbst tried to make up ground on Lamoreaux, but didn’t have enough time.

Lamoreaux finished first, Herbst second, Pfaff third and Kirchner fourth. Brad Powell finished fifth after starting 14th.

(West Salem, WI – May 5, 2012) Rain threaten to hold off racing at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway yet again, but Mother Nature pulled back just in time to get the night under way. And what a night it was. With Brad Powell, Greg Scheck, Jason Bolster, Kim Strom and Andy Moore all taking home feature wins.

The Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models kicked off the feature races with last season’s top finishers all bunched together in the middle of the pack. When the green flag waved, Powell, who started on the inside of Row 1, jumped out to a lead in front of pole sitter Adam Degenhardt.

As Powell was putting a gap between himself and the rest of the field, Steve Carlson and last year’s champion J. Herbst were advancing through the pack.
By the half way point both Carlson and Herbst had broke into the Top 5. Carlson weaved his way around Degenhardt and Mike Carlson to take the second spot. Meanwhile, Herbst was riding the bumper of Brent Kirchner for a couple of laps trying to get a hold on the fifth position. After the two traded paint, pushing and shoving each other around the track, Herbst moved to the low side and flew past Kirchner.

With six laps to go Carlson was in open air trying to run down Powell. But when the checkered flag waved, Powell proved to have too much of a lead for Carlson to make up. Carlson took second, Mike Carlson third, Herbst fourth and Degenhardt fifth.

Mark Lamoreaux returned to the La Crosse Speedway with an impressive seventh place finish, and a Heat race win, in Herbst’s backup car. Lamoreaux was in the mix all night battling with Kirchner to get into the Top 5.

Greg Scheck placed first in the North Country Contractors Sportsmen division after surviving three cautions in the first three laps.

Bill Martin had an interesting start to the race. He took the green flag then got loose out of Turn 2 and went sliding through the backstretch bringing out a caution.

When the field got restarted Justin Mullikin followed his lead, also getting loose and spinning out in the Turn 2 exit, bringing out caution number two.
The field had one more shot at a double file restart, but couldn’t make it work.

LaCrosse Speedway Announces New Award for 2012

by LaCrosse Speedway Media PR
Officials from LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway released today a new weekly award that will take place for its premier division, the NASCAR Late Models.

For the 2012 season, the driver whom improves his position (starting grid position to finishing position) the most during each Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature will receive an Outback Steakhouse Dinner Certificate. This new award will be titled the "OutBACK To the Front" award.

"This is a new way to bring out some of the suspense that takes place mid-pack during a race, besides any battles for the lead that may be happening," commented Race Director Jeff Garbers. "It should be a lot of fun to watch."

The first OutBACK To the Front award will take place on Saturday, April 28th, on opening night of the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season. In addition to the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models, the North Country Contractors Sportsmen, United Auto Supply Thunderstox and Volden Construction Outlawz will be in action.
