Joey Saldana has said a number of times this season that you need a little luck on your side when racing with the World of Outlaws, and he has had a couple of potential wins slip through his fingers by circumstances out of his control and by having some bad luck. He certainly had good luck on his side on Saturday night as he was victorious at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin in the Jim Boyd “JB” Memorial, despite having a rapidly deflating right rear tire during the waning laps at the high-banked 1/3-mile bullring.

Saldana had his Kasey Kahne Racing teammate Paul McMahan battle with him down the stretch, including on a couple of double file restarts. He held off McMahan to earn his series leading eighth A-Feature win of the season. The $10,000 victory for the second generation driver was the 67th of his World of Outlaws career which ties him with Stevie Smith for eighth on the all-time win list.

“We’ve given a few races away this year and in a situation like that, it’s out of your control and I thought we were going to give another one away tonight,” said Saldana in Victory Lane, when asked about his right rear tire. “We were able to hang in there and win the race. The crew definitely deserves to win with how hard they work day in and day out.”

Saldana was out front on six double file restarting, choosing the low line twice and the high line four times, including on the final double file restart with three laps to go. Following that restart, the red flag waved for a three-car incident involving Jason Meyers, Jac Haudenschild and Tim Kaeding before a lap had been completed, leading to a single file restart by way of rules.

Saturday night provided another action packed night of racing at Beaver Dam Raceway. The Piggly Wiggly Grand Nationals A Main saw Tim Thompson slip under Dan Schumacher on lap 3 and then hold off Don Sorce Jr. to win the 20 lap event.

Twenty-Four Piggly Wiggly of Beaver Dam Grand Nationals were on hand. The heat races were taken by Jim Rhode, Don Sorce Jr., and Craig Boettcher. The B Main was taken by Todd Ascherien over Don Schumacher.

The A Main saw Mitch Webber get the jump on lap 1 from the pole position. Webber would get crossed up in turn 4 on lap 2 and spin out. A great job of driving was done by the field to miss the spin, but Tommy Moore had nowhere to go and his night ended early. On the restart Dan Schumacher would inherit the lead for one lap before Thompson would slip under him going down the back stretch. Thompson would survive a late race caution and hold off Sorce Jr. for the win. Roger Lee would finish 3rd with Boettcher 4th and Nick Strobbe who started 20th in the 5th position.

There was Twenty-Two Weld Specialty Supply Modifieds in the pits. The heat races were won by Tim Lemirande, Mitch McGrath and Dan Tafelski. The B Main was taken by Tim Jorgenson.

The caution filled A Main saw Joe McGrath jump out into the lead. Brian Crapser moved inside of McGrath on lap 5 to take the point. Mitch McGrath who started 10th used the high side to overtake Crapser on lap 8. McGrath would survive a series of restarts and take a commanding win over current point leader Craig Priewe. Jeremy Christians would finish 3rd, Eddie Lemay Jr. would take 4th and Crapser would hold on for the 5th position.

The Choice Insurance Legend cars had their National Qualifier event. The heat races were taken by Brandon Schmitt and Warren Ropp.

A warm and muggy night of racing saw Don Scheffler take home the $1000 first place check Saturday night at Beaver Dam Raceway. Taco Bell of Beaver Dam/Watertown, put up the extra money and Scheffler took the lead on lap number two of the 25 lap A Main, and held off a hard charging Craig Priewe to take home the big money.

Thirty-eight Weld Specialty Supply Modifieds checked in to do battle for the $1000 first prize. The heat races were won by Jared Siefert, Scheffler, Jeremy Christians, and Mike Mueller. The B Mains saw Dave Schoenberger, Nick Firari and Dean Maurer come home with the wins.

The Modified A Main saw Chris Piquette lead the first lap from his 3rd starting position. Scheffler would take the lead one lap later. While Scheffler would lead, a good battle was brewing between Tim Lemirande, Brian Crapser, and Jeremy Christians for positions 2-4. A caution on lap 19 brought the cars of Priewe, who started 20th and Siefert who started 21st into the mix. Three quick cautions flew over the next two laps, but on lap 22 Priewe made his move to second, only to have Scheffler hold him off at the finish. Christians would end up third, followed by Siefert and Lemirande in the fifth position.

The NAPA Autoparts Street Stocks saw Jeremy Schwoch come home victorious in the heat race.

Jon Schultz jumped to the lead from his front row starting position. He led the first eleven laps, while Schwoch, Aaron Streblow and Robert Maule battled for positions 2-4. A caution came out on lap ten, and on the restart Maule who was running the low groove, was able to take the lead from Schultz, for one lap before Schultz passed him back on the high side. Schultz would go on to the victory, followed by Streblow, Schwoch, Maule and Brent Lepple rounded out the top 5.

Mike Sandholm (6) and Eddie LeMay, Jr. (13) exchanged the lead several times with LeMay making the final pass for the win on the last lap of the Modified Feature. While Peterson had things under control up front, Schmitt was working his way through the field, taking second place on lap 8. The last caution flew for a spinning Joel Wyttenbach on lap 13. When the green flag came back out, Peterson was able to hold off Schmitt for the win, Fraser finished in the third position, followed by Bethany Wyttenbach and Mueller recovered from being a part of the first lap accident to finish in the fifth position.
