Carlson and Wimmer close in on Haseleu for the Championship

By: Kevin Ramsell
ELKO, MN (Saturday, September 26, 2009) - It was a night of great racing and many story lines at Elko Speedway. Dan Fredrickson finally returns to victory lane in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment, Steve Holzhausen wins the Race for the Gold Championship and there will be a battle for the championship at the season finale.

Dan Fredrickson started on the outside of the front row for the 125-lap main event and he quickly got the lead over current ASAMT point leader Nathan Haseleu, who started on the pole.

Haseleu, who had a top-ten in every event so far this season, would see his streak end on lap 37. As he was battling with Chris Wimmer and Jason Schneider for second place coming down the frontstretch, Haseleu had something happen in his transmission causing him to spin going into turn one. The point leader’s night ended as it went off on the hook and he would finish 26th.

It’s been a while since Steve Holzhausen raced at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN. In fact, its been over 20 years according to the veteran driver from Bangor, WI who hopes that his return will be a golden one.

“I believe so, I haven’t gone back to look and see exactly when it was but its got to be somewhere around there,” Holzhausen said when asked if his last visit to the 0.375-mile facility was in 1985 but a Google search shows that his last visit may have been on July 3, 1989, when he won the sixth Annual Minnesota State Championship ARTGO event holding off Mark Lamoreaux, Jim Weber, Dick Trickle and Joe Shear for the win.

Holzhausen’s return will come this Saturday night, September 26, when he competes in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment’s Race for the Gold - Gold Race. The third event in the summer long three-race series where he is the current points leader after a pair of runner-up finishes at Dells Raceway Park. On Saturday, May 30 he finished second to Steve Carlson in the Bronze Race and then finished behind Frank Kreyer in the Silver Race on July 18th.

Spring Valley, MN— September 19, 2009— Joey Saldana came out on the short end of a late race battle just a few days ago at Clay County Fair Speedway losing the lead on the final lap to Jason Meyers and he made up for that on Saturday night in the Sprint for a Cure Summer Clash at Deer Creek Speedway in Minnesota, winning a late race duel with three-time and defending series champion Donny Schaz to pick up his series leading 18th A-Feature win of the season in the series inaugural visit to the immaculate 3/8-mile before a standing room only crowd in an event which was postponed by rain last month.

Spring Valley, MN—September 18, 2009—The World of Outlaws will visit Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota on Saturday, September 19 for an even which was postponed by rain last month. The event will mark the first visit to the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile in the 31-plus year history of the series.

Deer Creek Speedway will be the sixth track that the World of Outlaws will have visited in the state of Minnesota dating back to 1979. Steve Kinser was victorious in the first ever series event 30 years ago in the Gopher State. Nine drivers have won A-Feature events with the World of Outlaws in Minnesota, with Donny Schatz taking the most recent checkered flag last season.

The event at Deer Creek Speedway will be the 19th overall A-Feature event contested by the World of Outlaws in the state of Minnesota. Drivers currently competing full-time with the series that have won in the state in addition to Kinser and Schatz include Minnesota native Craig Dollansky and Kraig Kinser, Steve's son who was victorious in the series debut at North Central Speedway last year.

Spring Valley, MN—August 18, 2009—Craig Dollansky has visited numerous tracks in his home state of Minnesota during his life, be it when he was growing up and watching his father Bill race and then when he climbed into a sprint car himself, but one track he has never been to is Deer Creek Speedway, located in Spring Valley, which is about two and a half hours from his home in Elk River.

Dollansky will get to see and compete at the state-of-the-art high-banked 3/8-mile for the first time on Wednesday, August 19 as the World of Outlaws make their debut at the track as part of the Sprint for a Cure Summer Clash.

“It’s always nice to get to race close to home and there are a lot of great fans there in Minnesota that come out to the World of Outlaws events,” said Dollansky. “I’ve never been to Deer Creek but I hear it’s a very nice facility. We’re really looking forward to going there for the first time.”
