DES MOINES, Iowa (Aug. 18) – Another blue ribbon-worthy performance resulted in another Deery Brothers Summer Series feature win for Jeff Aikey.

Aikey stretched his advantage in the IMCA Late Model tour point standings with his fourth victory of the season Tuesday night at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway.

After catching Ray Guss Jr. for the lead on lap 10, Aikey ran in front to the finish of the state fair show. He caught up with the back of the field late in the 35-lapper and took the checkers most of a straightaway in front of Guss.

The $2,000 win was the career 52nd for Aikey, gunning for his sixth Deery crown. Jay Johnson, Tommy Elston and Jason Frankel rounded out the top five.

Todd Cooney drew the pole start and led the first three circuits. Guss took over following an early restart and set the pace before losing the front spot to Aikey.

“B” qualifier Craig Jacobs moved up 13 positions to finish eighth. Terry Neal was challenging Guss for second before coming to stop on the track at midway. He restarted at the back and ended in 13th.

Concord, NC—August 17, 2009—Donny Schatz, the three-time and defending World of Outlaws champion, won his fourth consecutive Knoxville Nationals on Sunday night, passing Joey Saldana in lapped on the 35th lap of the 40-lap contest as the pair of World of Outlaws stars wound up finishing one-two. Schatz now joins 20-time World of Outlaws champion Steve Kinser as the only two drivers in the 49-year history of the event to win four in a row.

Schatz began the week by posting the third-fastest lap in time trials on the opening night of the event and charged all the way from 21st to finish seventh that night on a track that was very fast and tough to pass on, to earn the most points of the first night qualifiers. A strong run in the A-Scramble on Friday night would place him sixth on the grid for the finale which was pushed back one night by rain. Schatz won earlier this season in World of Outlaws action at Knoxville.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Aug. 5) – Jeff Aikey proved again that he’s just as fast on asphalt as he is on dirt.

Aikey led the last 31 times around the half-mile oval in winning Wednesday’s “Dirt At The Downs” Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.

The victory, his third of the season, career fourth at Cedar Rapids and IMCA Late Model tour 51st, paid $2,000.

Jason Frankel, second behind Aikey in the series point standings, ran in the runner-up spot most of the way. Terry Neal, Ray Guss Jr. and Rob Toland rounded out the top five.

Neal, piloting Rick Dralle’s car after his own ride expired early in the evening, drew the pole start but Aikey made his move from outside row two and was at the front of the field when the fourth lap was scored.

He was pulling away before catching up with the back of the pack on the 11th circuit. Frankel made up most of the distance as the two ran in lapped traffic, trying unsuccessfully high and low to make his way into first.

The front pair continued to negotiate their way through backrunners as the race ran caution-free. Johnny Spaw passed nine cars and finished sixth.

Knoxville, IA— June 27, 2009—Terry McCarl had been in contention a number of times for wins this season with the World of Outlaws and came up just short in each of those bids. He entered Saturday night's event at his home track of Knoxville Raceway with three runner-up finishes with the series in 2009 and also had three second-place finishes at the legendary half-mile.

McCarl put all of those near misses behind him with a dominating performance in the World of Outlaws final stop of the season and the famed track on Saturday night leading flag to flag to pick up his eighth career A-Feature win with the series in a race that was completed in less than seven minutes and ran caution free.

“It felt good to come home and win tonight and to hold off Donny Schatz,” said McCarl. “I always feel like these are good tune-ups for the (Knoxville) Nationals. We almost won this race last time and he got us late in the race. I feel like we are a contender if we keep our stuff together.”

Thirty-one previous Late Model tour races have been held at Boone, 20 of them in conjunction with the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.

ALLISON, Iowa (May 20) – Lead changes came fast and furious in the early going, but once Tommy Elston got back in front the race was for the runner-up spot in Wednesday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series event at Highway 3 Raceway.

Elston caught Jeff Aikey as the 35-lapper counted down, then drove away for his second career victory on the IMCA Late Model tour circuit. The win at Allison paid $2,000.

“B” feature winner Ray Guss Jr. moved up a dozen spots from where he took the initial green flag, then ran out of time in his bid to overtake Elston and settled for second. Aikey, Terry Neal and Rob Toland completed the top five.

Row one starters Joe Zrostlik and T.J. Criss both did time at the front of the pack before giving way to Aikey, who led five times around the track before Elston moved ahead.

Aikey regained the point on lap 15 and brought Elston along into lapped traffic just after midway. Cautions slowed the second half of the contest and kept the field close. Elston made his move back into first with 10 laps left as Guss advanced and hoped for an opportunity of his own.

Elston’s first Deery win came on April 13, 2001 at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson.

The Midwest is blessed with a variety of racetracks for fans to enjoy and there is one that caters to each fan. But its rare to find a track that caters to a fan who likes the competition a short track gives and the speed of a super speedway. Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA may be a track that can cater to that fan.

The track was designed by ABC/ESPN Racing Analyst and 1989 NASCAR Champion Rusty Wallace. The track is 7/8-mile in length with 12, 13, 14 degree progressive banking in each turn and has seating for up to 30,000 people. But that will increase as they will host its first NASCAR Nationwide Series race later this year.

Its a facility that is not only racer friendly but is fan friendly as well. It’s motto is “America’s Place to Race.” A motto that was created by its management to set as a goal to what they would like their track to be, and they are quickly living up to that motto.

The opening weekend for the United States Super Truck (USST) Challenge series started off not as planned. Rain Thursday and Friday forced the series to cancel race one of the racing weekend's double header at Hawkeye Downs (Cedar Rapids, IA). Race two of the weekend at the Iowa Speedway (Newton, IA) on the other hand was a great success. The sun was shining and the teams were able to race, but mother nature was not done, she provided the drivers with a stiff breeze making the 7/8th mile at Iowa Speedway a little more challenging.

John Wood of Sun Prairie, WI driving his #72 Patherfinder & Rockweiler Insulation Ford, started where he left the Iowa Speedway last year, fast. John motored around the speedway with an average speed of 126.500 MPH (24.901 seconds). He was followed by Chris Sevey (Waterloo, IA) and Jess Williams (Hickory Flats, MS).
