Champions Honored at Columbus 151 Speedway Banquet

This past Saturday, Columbus 151 Speedway held their 2009 Awards Banquet at the Cardinal Ale House & Bowl located in Columbus, WI. A large crowd gathered to congratulate the division champions and others for their season accomplishments.

Steve Bodeau was the emcee for the evening while Dave Rottiger assisted in handing out the awards. The evening started by introducing Brian Dopkins, the track’s 2010 flagman. It was also announced that the Jeff Falbe Memorial will open the 2010 season on Sunday, May 2.

Randy Bruenig of Columbus was crowned Late Model champion. He acknowledged the difficult challenge of winning a championship and thanked the people that helped him succeed. Throughout his title winning campaign, Bruenig captured 2 feature wins and 7 fast times. Randy also won the Sportsmanship award. Dean Schultz of Horicon was second and Fort Atkinson’s Don Gaserude came in third. Lincoln Keeser of Johnson Creek won the Rookie of the Year award.

Jake Wasserburger of Poynette captured the Sportsman championship. Jake also thanked the many people that helped him achieve this honor. Kevin Anderson of Cottage Grove was runner-up and Brandon Riedner from Waunakee finished third. Alex Lee from Madison was Rookie of the Year in the division.

Dustin Ward of Waterloo repeated his championship in the Hobby Stock division. After Dustin thanked everyone, he gave a special award to D.L. Hatton for his many years of dedication to the sport of racing. Second place went to Ben Monday out of Marshall and third went to Jim Tate, Jr from Waterloo.

Kale Peterman from Iron Ridge won the championship for the new Thunderstock division. Scottie Hatton of Waterloo was second and Brad Warthan from Sparta was third. Warthan also received the Rookie of the Year award.

Ed Klug from Oregon captured the Bandit championship. Second place went to Daniel Birkett of Lodi and Phillip Wuesthoff from Beaver Dam took third. Wuesthoff received the Rookie of the Year award as well.

Matt Wachuta of Milton won the Back-up championship competing against several veteran drivers. George Wachuta from Brooklyn came in second and Ryan Oetzel from Brodhead placed third.
