Madison International Speedway News - 03.15.10

Great to see all of you who could make it out to last Saturday's meeting at Viking Lanes in Stoughton. I have posted the tire rules for 2010 below and I have made reference to a couple of changes in the ASA Educational Series program.

One notable change from 2010...if your division is running as a support division for a leased event such as the ASA Midwest Tour race on May 2nd or RK Promotions All Star Challenge on June 29th you will receive 30 points for running the event regardless of where you finish in the feature. This would apply to the Area Sportsman for the May 2nd event at this point.

General Manager Dave Grueneberg also discussed the 2010 schedule and his goals for the season. "We have made some schedule changes and are starting later this year. Traditionally the Friday nights in May have not been good weather-wise and we really have to watch our expenses. The racing business is battling many challenges and we are not immune to those at MIS. We are making some changes in how we do things and it's important that we all work together."

Dave Oswald, technical director, reviewed the rule revisions in the Late Models, Area Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Bandits. The Legends will follow their national series rules just as they have in the past.

Pete Raskovic also discussed some marketing tips for racing teams. "If you have kids on your team through ASA Educational Series get to your local media. They love stories about your efforts with the kids. This mentor relationship is so valuable for all involved."

Driver Info / Membership forms are available at our website

Why Should You Be a Member?

First of all, if you are a driver you are eligible for the MIS point fund which last year paid out over $10,000 provided you run 75% of the shows and attend the awards banquet. Members also receive a discount at the pit gate for regular racing events and are eligible for the ASA insurance which insures you from the time you leave your shop until you return home after the races. We are also looking at offering member drivers a ticket promotional package this year too.

ASA Educational Series

The ASA Educational Series is back at MIS. Here's some important information on how teams and students can get involved in the program. It's a definite win-win for all involved.

All Educational Series student members must be approved by the local Ohio Technical College (OTC) representative Randy Dziadowicz. You can contact Randy at rdziadowicz1@wi.rr.com or by phone at 414-339-9586. If teams have a student or students interested you must contact Randy. Students who are looking to be part of a team must also contact him. Teams looking for students should contact Dave Grueneberg at 608.513.2278.

Note: There must be at least four students in a division for that division to be eligible for the program.

All student members must become ASA members for insurance purposes and will also become members of Skills USA. Once approved students will receive their memberships and logbook from the ASA Educational Series office.

The ASA Educational Series office will maintain the points since the standings will include more than just the car points in 2010.

For more information contact Larry Pond at lpond@asaeducationalseries.com or call him at 480-861-8108.

The 2010 Season at MIS

Five weekly divisions will once again be featured at MIS. The Late Models, Area Sportsman, and Hobby Stocks will be in action on Wisconsin's Fastest Half-Mile while the Bandits and Legends race on the quarter-mile which is affectionately known as the "Ring of Fire." "We have a great weekly racing program that is very competitive and we are looking for bigger and better things this year," said MIS General Manager Dave Grueneberg.

The ASA Midwest Tour Super Late Models, Sportsman, and Trucks will all be in action for the season opener on Sunday, May 2nd. Highlighting the racing action will be the second annual Joe Shear Classic for the Super Late Models. "We couldn't ask for a better way to start the season," added Grueneberg. "It's definitely one of the premier racing events in the Midwest."

Racing action at MIS actually gets the green flag with a pair of open practice sessions scheduled for Saturday, April 24 and Saturday, May 1 running from Noon - 5:00 PM both days.

The season opener for the five weekly divisions will occur on Sunday, May 23rd. "This is something new for us. We are starting a little later than in past seasons but after looking back at some of the weather issues we've experienced on Friday nights in past years we thought this change was necessary," noted Grueneberg. The weekly Friday night racing program goes under the lights starting on May 28th and continues until the end of August.

The RK Racing Promotions Swiss Colony All Star Challenge featuring NASCAR stars Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart returns to MIS in 2010 on Tuesday, June 29th. "This has become a tradition at MIS and brings a lot of fans out to the speedway from all over the country. We are very happy to be able to host this event again in 2010," said Grueneberg. This year's All Star Challenge will be a Super Late Model event.

The All Star Challenge week will be a big one at MIS as the annual fireworks extravaganza will light up the skies on Friday, July 2nd.

The weekly racing program will continue until season championship night on Friday, August 27th with twin features in all five divisions. "We expect our point races to come down to the final night," said Grueneberg. Once again, the Late Model champion at Madison will be eligible for the national ASA points championship.

The MIS Fall Classic will be held on Friday, September 24th and Saturday, September 25th and will feature Late Models, Area Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, Bandits, Legends, Super Cups, Vintage Cars, International Four Cylinders, Short Trackers, and Mid Americans. The Big 8 Late Model Series will be part of the MIS Fall Classic for the first time and the Super Outlaw Late Models will also make their Madison debut.

Two "destruction" events are planned for 2010 with one slated for Friday, September 3rd and the other likely to occur in May. These events will feature a small car enduro along with gauntlet, tag, train, and trailer races.

MIS is continuing its emphasis on family friendliness as all children eleven and under will be admitted free for regular racing events. "MIS is truly a place for the entire family. Where else can you to a sporting event and get the kids in free?" said Grueneberg.

MIS Tire Program 2010

1) You will get six tires for the first week and two every night of racing.
2) After that these tires will be recorded and put into your tire bank. You do not need to run your bank tires for hot laps, but you must run bank tires for qualifying and racing.
3) You do not need to run the tires the week you purchase them, but the tires you qualify on must be registered to you and in your bank. The tires you qualify on will be the tires you run for all racing events that night.
4) You must fill out a tire card every week before you qualify and if you are caught with a tire that is not in your bank you will lose 25 points and start at the rear of every race you are in that night.
5) If someone shows up after the season has started, they will get four tires and start their tire bank from that point.
6) We will not confiscate tires as we have used this bar code system in the past with the 1070 tire and it worked fine

Sad News from MIS

It was very sad to hear of Chris Ehrhart's death on Saturday. Chris was a great competitor score victory at MIS on July 14th, 2006 to name one and around the state. Chris will be remembered for a sense of humor and hard work at the rack and in the business world. He built race cars and a businesses from the ground up.

We at MIS send our condolences to the family and friends. We know that at difficult times like this only the LORD God can comfort and are reminded of that in Naham 1:7 The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him, NIV and again in Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. NIV

If we or I can be of help please let me know,

The Chaplain's Corner
By Todd Christopherson

Are you ready? Meetings are happening. Cars are being built. Skin going on. Some even painting and getting the decals on. I can almost close my eyes and smell oils and rubber and hear the sound of engine and tires. Are you ready?

So over Christmas we made our annual visit to my parents and my Dad was telling a story I want to share and the Spiritual application. It started with him asking me how my feet were, I have a bunch of problems with them I deal with daily. He asked if I had healed from getting poked, I had stepped on a needle. I told him they were fine and it heal ok. Then he said it reminded him of when Grandpa had a problem like that.

My Grandfather was a tough guy, so much so he once had a problem with his knee and he figured it was just the knee or some shrapnel from WWI that they just did not get all over it out. A while late after it bugged him enough he noticed something coming through the skin. So he had a doctor look at it and the doc pulled out a good size sewing needle. Grandpa said he remembered stepping on something that when through his boot but could not find anything. The doctor said it was a good thing that the needle came through the skin because it could have gone all the way to his heart and killed him.

So I thought about this story and it has a couple of great Spiritual truths in it. We can step into sin and not pay attention and years later it damages us. Grandpa had to feel it at different points but he ignored it. We do that to sin too often and should not. We need to be confessing sin and coming clean with God. I tried to explain "confession of sin" to one of my kids the other day. God knows our sin but he wants us to admit to it (confess it), agree with God how ugly and awful it is and repent of it, turn from it. We need to confess and repent of sin to have a right relationship with the LORD. Sin damages that relationship just like in marriage wrong acts damage the marriage relationship.

Second point is that sin does damage and if we do not deal with it things happen, bad things. Listen to James 1:15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Can you see how serious sin is? Have you prayed Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. We need to be praying that daily asking God to show our sin to us and then confessing and repent of sin. It leads to death. It is that serious.

Have a great day racin' in the SONshine

Todd

If I can help or there are question about this get a hold of me and we can seek God's Word for what He says because we know His Words are eternal and my words only temporal.

That's all for now. The season will be here soon.
