Waterford, WI, September 9 – The Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series is set to conclude its 2009 season on Saturday September 12 at the Grundy County Speedway (Morris, IL). The “FRANK WELCH MEMORIAL 250” main event will be held in honor of the late Grundy County Speedway race promoter who recently passed away in 2009.
The race program will begin starting at 6:30 featuring a 15-lap “Mechanic’s race” event for the Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series cars. Immediately following will be the “FRANK WELCH MEMORIAL 125” enduro for the Midwest Enduro Small Car and V-6 Series cars. The final racing event for the day will feature the Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series “FRANK WELCH MEMORIAL 250” starting at 7:30.
A guaranteed first prize will be awarded to both the “A” and “B” class winners for the Stock Car division and the winner of the Small Car Series if 40 cars are entered in each division. A first place prize of $800 for the “A” class, $400 for the “B” class winner and $500 for the Small Car Series winner respectively. Each class pays the top 15 positions and will be adjusted accordingly to car count and attendance.
The top five finishing drivers in each event will receive plaque awards courtesy of the Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series and the Grundy County Speedway. The overall winner in each division will receive a large trophy.
Currently Mike Watson is the Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series point leader going into the final event. Watson, who is also leading the current “rookie of the year” point standings, is in front of four time Series champion Darryl Traber by a single point followed by Don Lunsford, Tom Barnharst and Tom Ruh. Barnharst is also a four time Series champion with Lunsford and Ruh seeking their first.
Currently Dan Chapman is the Midwest Enduro Small Car Series point leader going into the final event. Chapman is also the current Midwest Enduro Small Car Series “Rookie of the Year” point leader ahead of Jason Jarvis. Chapman, is followed by Dylan Helfenstein, Leo Bujak, Jasper Drengler and a tie for fifth between Mike Jucius and Jarvis. All drivers are seeking their first title in the division.
Currently the team of Brad Nelson and Brad Bahr are the Midwest Enduro V-6 Series point leaders going into the final event. Nelson and Bahr are also the current Midwest Enduro V-6 Series “Rookie of the Year” point leaders ahead of Joel Schumann. Nelson and Bahr, seeking their first title, are followed by defending champion Julie Hayes, Schumann, Tim Goulet and Joe Ciardo III.
It would be a first time in Series history that a rookie driver would win the championship, possibly in all three divisions.
Drivers entering the final event of the season for the first time in 2009 will have to pay the normal entry fee but can disregard the $25 membership fee.
The Seneca Racers will present a special prize in both main enduro events for the evening. Led by Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series drivers John West and Jim Olson, the two have offered $94 to the leader of the “FRANK WELCH MEMORIAL 250” and the leader of the “FRANK WELCH MEMORIAL 125” at lap 94 in honor of Welch who competed using the #94.
The pit gate will open at 3:00 pm. The grandstands will open at 5:00 pm. The “mechanic’s race” will begin at 6:30, “FRANK WELCH MEMORIAL 125” at 6:45 and the “FRANK WELCH MEMORIAL 250” main event at 7:30.
