Fogel & Jucius Enduro Winners At Dells Raceway Park September 6

Wisconsin Dells, WI, September 6 – Mark Fogel of West Bend, collected his third Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series win of the season at the Dells Raceway Park. Fogel was shown as the leader for most of the “LABOR DAY 250” main event.

Fogel was the overall winner and first in the "A" Class over Phil Speciale. First in the "B" Class was Jesse Jollie over Steven Markey.

Mike Jucius scored his first career Midwest Enduro Small Car Series win. Steve Privett was first to cross the line but was not able to make up a 2-lap pre-race penalty to collect the win. Jucius was first over Mark Johler.

Brad Nelson was the winner in the “V-6 Series” division over Joe Ciardo III. Nelson collected his third win of the season and now sits on top of the Series point standings over defending champion Julie Hayes.

SMALL CAR

The 125-lap “LABOR DAY 125” Small Car / V-6 Series enduro was off to a great start paced by Jasper Drengler. By lap ten, Steve Privett was out front over second running Jucius with Drengler in third. Privett maintained the advantage over Jucius at the lap 25 marker followed by Johler, Drengler and Jason Jarvis. In order for Privett to win, he needed to finish two laps ahead of the second place finisher as he was docked two laps for a pre-race infraction. Privett was still out in front at lap 75 with Jucius and Johler close by. The top three were the only cars on the lead lap at this point of the event.

The final 25 laps of the race event looked to be a shootout between Privett, Jucius and Johler. Johler made a move on Privett on lap 104 and was shown as the leader. Johler held the point up to lap 118 when Privett took command once again. Johler started to fade as Jucius was on the move as he was now back in the runner up spot with only five laps remaining. Privett went on to cross the finish line first three seconds ahead of Jucius and seven seconds ahead of Johler. Jucius was declared the winner of the event however after the Privett’s pre-race penalties. The official top five finish of the “Labor Day 125” was Jucius, Johler, Dylan Helfenstein, Privett and Leo Bujak.

STOCK CAR

Thirty-three entries were on the grid for the running of the "LABOR DAY 250" Midwest Enduro Stock Car Series main event. In light of the small field, the pace of the event was expected to be quick. “Big Al” Kuphal set the early pace from the pole position with Mark Tomasi glued to his rear bumper. marker. At the lap 25 marker, Kuphal was shown as the leader followed by Tomasi, Art Speciale, Brian Blenker and Tom Ruh. Mike Hennessey was on the move as he closed to within one second of Kuphal by lap 50. Hennessy pulled away from Kuphal at lap 60 after an intense battle for the lead. At lap 75, Hennessy was out in front followed by Kuphal, Matt Schlick, Art Speciale and Fogel. Hennessy’s venture was short lived as he apparently went in to turn three too hard and washed up in to Jay LeBrun forcing both drivers in to the wall. As LeBrun pulled away, Hennessey backed down the track in front of Bob Kelly, taking another car out for the day. The field would make their first of two mandatory refueling pit stops a few circuits later at lap 84. The top five during the break were Kuphal, Don Lunsford, Art Speciale, Ryan Nuti and Schlick.

Fogel, Lunsford and Art Speciale’s crews made great pit stops as all three drivers were lined up on the front row as the field waited for the green to wave once again. Lunsford went directly in to the pits after one lap for brake problems as the red flag was displayed for the tire departure off Schlick’s ’85 caprice. As the field was moving once again, Art Speciale was shown as the leader of the event up to lap 100 followed by his brother Phil, Craig Phillips, Fogel and Blenker. Fogel was now making his moves as he passed by Art Speciale a few circuits later. Blenker was also making strides as he definitely was a contender as Fogel and Blenker were the top two at lap 125 followed by Art Speciale, Nuti and Phil Speciale. Some of top contenders were starting to experience mechanical problems as the field was approaching the next pit stop at lap 167. Ryan Nuti went out of the 250-lap contest at lap 149 as early leader Al Kuphal bowed out at lap 151. The top five going in the final break included Fogel, Blenker, Phil Speciale, Tom Barnharst and Jay Bozart. The field was stopped before entering the pits for a red flag situation to control a fire in the pit area.

Fogel was the one to beat but Blenker was not about to make it easy for him. Blenker made a great push after the break in the action but left the track on lap 194 with mechanical issues and later returned. With 50 laps remaining, Phil Speciale was running in second, eight seconds behind the leader. Speciale cut the gap to within five seconds a few times in the remaining laps but could get no closer as Fogel crossed the line to take the win. The real battle was for third as three through five positions were within one second of each other. Following Fogel to round out the top five finishers were Phil Speciale, Darryl Traber, Bozart and Barnharst.

The next Series event is this Saturday September 12 at the Grundy County Speedway. The final event of the season will have the pit gate opening at 3:00, grandstand @ 5:00, mechanic’s race for the stock car division at 6:30, Small Car enduro at 6:45 with the “Frank Welch Memorial 250” main event set to begin at 7:30.
