BURLINGTON, WI (Monday, October 05, 2009) – Fresh off his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win over a week ago at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Johnny Sauter is hoping to keep his winning streak alive as he will be competing at the 40th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend that starts this Thursday at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI.
Sauter will be competing in the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment’s 100-lap event and is also planning on competing in the Dick Trickle “99” on Friday night.
“I’m really pumped up about it,” Sauter said as he was taking a break from a test session in Sandusky, OH. “No member of the Sauter family has ever won at Oktoberfest and I think its time to change that. I would like to be that one to get that first win.”
Sauter is no stranger to Oktoberfest as he made his super late model debut at the premiere Midwest race event back in 1996. “Oh yeah, that is something I won’t forget,” Sauter recalled. “I bought Keith Busekros’s car about a week before and we were racing in an ARTGO qualifying race on Saturday night when I went into turn one and the body flew right off the car. I remember coming to a stop and only having the roll cage around me. That was pretty wild!”
Sauter competed in his first Oktoberfest main event in 2001 where he finished 24th in the NASCAR Re/Max Series 200-lap event. He hopes to make his second main event start this weekend.
He also is looking forward to returning and competing at the 40th Annual event, “This is a big weekend in racing and they have so many cool things going on,” Sauter said. “I am looking forward to coming back and having some fun.”
He will be competing with ASAMT and is also planning on competing in the Dick Trickle “99” on Friday night, “I think we are going to be racing in both, simply because we are going to be there so why not?”
Johnny’s nephew, Travis who finished third in last year’s ASAMT Otkoberfest 100, will also be competing this weekend.
Another thing that Sauter could be looking forward to when he returns to his home state this weekend was something he posted on his Facebook page last week that read, “Kwik Trip hot dogs use to be 2 or 3 for a buck, I lived on them things bout 10 years ago. To this day there still the best hands down, only problem is there in Wisconsin.”
“We have made Kwik Trip, our Series title sponsor, aware of this and it wouldn’t surprise me if Johnny gets a little gift from this weekend at Oktoberfest,” Steve Einhaus, ASAMT Vice-president said. “Kwik Trip has been to just about every one of our events since the series has started and they have treated our teams so well with their assortment of water, drinks, coffee, fruit and snacks. The teams really do appreciate it and they show it by staying loyal to purchasing all of their travel needs at Kwik Trip. We are very happy to have them as our title sponsor and looking forward to competing near their home office this weekend with a great championship battle to be decided on Sunday.”
The 40th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend will start this Thursday, October 8 and run until Sunday, October 11. The ASAMT will have their qualifying and preliminary races on Saturday, October 10. The last chance race and the Oktoberfest 100 will take place on Sunday, October 11.
